FAQ for the TYPO3 upgrade

During 2025, AU IT will be upgrading TYPO3 from the current version 10 to version 12. This will have an impact on you, if your job tasks require you to create and edit content in TYPO3. On this page you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions related to the TYPO3 upgrade asked by web editors.

How long is the duration of an upgrade?

The upgrade process lasts from a Monday in week 1 until the forthcoming Tuesday in week 2. This means that we expect a go live of TYPO3 version 12 on a Tuesday in the following week. The local web coordinators will be in close contact with AU IT during the week. An e-mail will be sent to all editors, once the upgrade is successfully completed.

Will I be able to edit pages, once the upgrade has started?

Yes, version 10 will work as per usual once the upgrade has started. All necessary editing can still be done on the pages, but editing that is done AFTER the upgrade has started, must be made again in version 10, once the upgrade is completed.

Will I be granted access to edit pages in version 12, before this version goes live?

No, this will not be possible due to the fact that it will prolong the upgrade process.

Will the website shut down for a brief period?

Only for a few minutes, when there is a shift in the display of TYPO3 10 to TYPO3 12. There might occur caching-related issues, but AU IT is on site during this period of time in order to quickly resolve problems that may arise. There is not to be expected any down time.

Which workload is to be expected once the upgrade process begins?

As an editor, you will experience an extra workload, if you need to edit your website in the week of the upgrade. These edits must be made again in version 12.

Furthermore, you might be involved in testing the website once version 12 runs in a test environment. If this is the case, you will be asked by your local web coordinator.

Will I be able to order a new domain while the upgrade is going on?

No, unfortunately not. You will not be able to create new domains on a given installation up until 1 week before the beginning of an upgrade.

Remember to hide Powermail forms that save data

If you have any Powermail forms that save data in TYPO3, you must be attentive to the fact that data will not be stored during the upgrade process.

Therefore you must find these Powermail forms in version 10, hide them, and paste a text that explains to the end-user, that Powermail forms are out of function during the following seven days.

Proposal for disclaimer text DK+UK:

Formular midlertidigt deaktiveret

Form temporarily disabled

Aarhus University is in the process of a major CMS-upgrade. Because of this we have had to deactivate the form that is normally placed here. The reason is that the data that is send using the form will not reach the recipient. The form will be available again (editor insert the end date for the upgrade). If you cannot wait this long to get access to the form, you are welcome to send an email to typo3@au.dk with a link to the page where the form is missing. Then we will do what we can to put you in contact with those who are responsible for the form in question.
