Copyright work as a web editor

The Copyright Act is one of the guidelines that you should keep in mind in your daily work in creating and organizing web content. Copyright affects the way in which you can use, among other things, images, text, video and data that have been prepared by others. Before you put content on your website, you need to consider: Who is the content rights holder? Remember to ask for permission to use the content - and remember to credit the rights holder.

It can be difficult to keep track of copyright rules. If you are unsure, you can ask your local web support or find guidance on the page here.

Especially for the use of images

Make sure you have the necessary rights to the images you use on the website. Unfortunately, we have experienced several cases where a person has received a fine due to the fact that images were stored and used in TYPO3 – without the proper rights. We therefore recommend that you pay attention to the following:

  • Make sure that images with rights restrictions are located somewhere in the file list where you can easily find it and delete it when the rights expire.
  • Don't save copyright-restricted images to the default ingen_mappe_valgt folder, as it's nearly impossible to find the image again when it needs to be deleted.
  • In the case of news, you should also upload images with rights restrictions in the file list, and then select them from there when you insert images in the news.
  • Even if a news item has expired/been hidden, the images in the news article will still be found by search engines. Therefore, make sure to also delete photos from the file list when you have deleted/hidden a news article.

Rules of thumb for your copyright work

Please note:

  • You may use images from AU's image database and Colourbox. Read about access, terms of use and credit at AU Foto.
  • It is your responsibility as a web editor to ensure that you have the necessary rights to use images, text, video and data that have been prepared by others.
  • Some images and files may only be used for a certain period of time. Make sure to remove the image completely from TYPO3 if it is no longer allowed to be used - i.e. delete it from the file list.
  • Do not use images you find in the /ingen_mappe_valgt/ folder in the file list. They may be protected by copyright.
  • All images you find on the internet are generally protected by copyright. Search images with Creative Commons licenses.
  • It is not allowed to copy/paste other media's news without permission.
  • Be careful not to put a PDF or PowerPoint from a conference on your website. The material may contain data that has not yet been published. Always ask the rights holder first.
