General rules for AU websites

Content on websites affiliated with Aarhus University must adhere to the following rules:

  1. All information on websites affiliated with Aarhus University must comply with Danish and international laws, including copyright law (e.g., regarding the reproduction of texts and photos, as well as the use of programs) and criminal law (defamation, insults, incitement to illegal activities, racism, etc.).

  2. Commercial activities or advertising for commercial enterprises are not permitted on the university's web servers unless the business is directly related to the university and its activities.

  3. The university's name, seal, logo, and design may only be used in connection with information directly related to the university's activities. The university's seal, logo, and design must not be modified or used partially.

The university reserves the right to halt any website production affiliated with Aarhus University that, in the university's assessment, could be harmful to its reputation or activities, including use that places an undue burden on the university's network.

In Case of Rule Violations

As a general rule, violations of these rules will result in an immediate requirement for the violator to remove the offending pages from the website.

If the content owner (see below) deems it necessary to remove information that violates the law or university rules immediately, without warning, due to the severity of the violation or the impact on the university’s reputation, the responsible party may arrange for this.

Misuse of the internet contrary to these rules may also result in the following sanctions:

  • Temporary or permanent revocation of the right to edit the website.
  • Application of standard disciplinary rules for students (with expulsion as the most severe sanction).
  • Application of standard disciplinary sanctions for employees (with dismissal as the most severe sanction).

The temporary or permanent revocation of the right to edit websites is decided on behalf of the management by the content owner. Standard disciplinary sanctions for students are imposed by the university's management in accordance with general rules.

Any criminal liability and liability for damages resulting from illegal use of the university’s website rests with the individual content producer. This responsibility may arise, for example, from a police report filed by the university or the aggrieved party.
