It can be challenging to keep track of copyright rules when managing content on a website. If you are unsure, ask your web support team. Remember that copyright applies not only to images but also to data, text, video, drawings, software, etc.

Be aware of the following:

  • It is your responsibility as a web editor to ensure that you have the necessary rights to use an image.
  • Some images may only be used for a specific period. Make sure to completely remove the image from TYPO3 if it can no longer be used—i.e., delete it from the file list.
  • Avoid using images found in the /no_folder_selected/ folder in the file list. They may be protected by copyright.
  • All images found on the internet are generally protected by copyright. Look for images with Creative Commons licenses.
  • We must not reuse (copy/paste) news from other media without permission.
  • Be cautious about uploading PDFs or PowerPoint presentations from a conference to your website. The material may contain unpublished data. Always ask the rights holder first.
